When you hear Dasher and Blitzen, you think of merry times… but that wasn’t the case for these two boys.
Found abandoned in Waverly Hall at just 7 months old, these incredibly sweet brothers were scared of their own shadows. Being taken into animal control only added to the fear. Thankfully, the compassionate staff at Harris County Animal Control and the dedicated volunteers of Next Stepp Animal Rescue stepped in—patiently helping these big, gentle giants begin to trust and come out of their shells.

Dasher, the more bashful of the two, was the first to go into foster. Sadly, just a week later, Blitzen was struck by the dreaded parvo virus while still at animal control. He was rushed to Riverside Veterinary Hospital, where his prognosis was guarded and the first week was truly touch and go.
Thanks to round-the-clock care, monoclonal parvo
antibody treatment, fluids, and antibiotics, Blitzen fought hard—and won! Now he's on the road to recovery, Blitzen has moved into a medical foster home where he can safely gain weight, heal, and finally learn what it means to be part of a family.
From fighting for his life to getting a second chance—Blitzen’s story isn’t over yet. Their journey isn’t over yet—stay tuned for updates and adoption possibilities for these sweet boys.
