The saga continues and another dog in need… the rise of Phoenix.

Phoenix was just a shadow of a dog when Animal Control found her.  Skin stretched tightly over her jutting bones, each rib a silent cry for help.  Her eyes were dull, but asking for love. She had been abandoned, left to fend for herself and no one was claiming her. When Animal Control went to pick her up, she gratefully crawled into their arms.  After a medical evaluation, foster mom Sue brought her home to nurse her back to health.

We named her Phoenix, not for who she was, but for who she could become.

The road to healing is slow--she needed several small meals a day for the first couple of weeks.  We are still soaking her food and adding canned food as well.  With gentle hands, she thoroughly enjoyed her warm bath and the cleansing of her wounds.  A nice rub down afterwards let her fall asleep on the comfy dog bed.

Phoenix has now been in foster for almost 2 weeks and is not only gaining weight but also growing in personality.  She is generally a happy go lucky dog, does not meet a stranger and her tail is in perpetual motion.  She craves attention and will Velcro herself next to you. Our best guess is she may be a Plott hound mix, as she loves her long trail walks and her nose is always in action. She enjoys the company of other dogs, but is not a big fan of cats or livestock.

Now our girl has been in foster for nearly 6 months. She is completely housebroken and crate trained. Her foster mom and dad say she is energetic and loves to play, but is also a cuddly lovebug. Phoenix loves belly rubs, massages, and running outside. She has been exposed to and loves people, children, and other dogs. She will pass on cats though! Phoenix is fully ready for adoption. Let us know if you are considering becoming her furever family--or apply to adopt on our adoption page.
